The arrival of Dr. Dave Reidmiller as the inaugural director of our new climate center was one of the highlights of 2020. But the story of this exciting step forward for GMRI began years earlier, with the forethought of longtime friend and donor C. Wickham “Wick” Skinner.

Wick was a mentor and friend to GMRI until his passing in 2019. He provided guidance during our early years, inspiring us to think big and be bold. In 2015, Wick notified us of his intention to include a bequest to GMRI in his estate plans — a gift that would eventually help launch the climate center.

"From the very beginning, GMRI has had a strong role as the organization supporting the Gulf of Maine,” said Wick at the time. “My gift is a bet on the future — and giving a forever-gift is very important to me."

We’re proud to celebrate difference-makers like Wick as part of our Gulf of Maine Legacy Society, which honors planned gifts of many kinds.
