Woodstock Teacher Earns McCarthy Award

In June, our education team honored Woodstock Elementary School teacher Tonya Prentice with the third annual McCarthy Education Innovation Award. GMRI education staff presented the award during a ceremony at her school.

Each year, GMRI presents the award to the Maine teacher who best embodies GMRI’s education principles. These teachers provide students authentic science experiences and promote students’ interest in, understanding of, and connection to scientific studies.

The McCarthy Award is named after retired Unum CEO Kevin McCarthy, a longtime supporter of science education in Maine.

“Tonya is a great teacher and a great leader,” said Meredyth Sullivan, GMRI’s LabVenture! program manager. “We applaud her amazing efforts to advance science education in our state, and we are so pleased to present her with this award.”
